This was an incredible race. Republicans spent millions of dollars in attack ads against me, but you met them head on with a phenomenal get-out-the-vote operation that turned out voters in every single county in the state.

The result of the election is disappointing, but it's also further evidence of a broken campaign system that needs to be dramatically reformed.

Before you head out to your polling place today, I wanted to make sure you had the correct information about where to cast your ballot. 

Polling places change sometimes, and I'd hate for you to show up at the wrong location, get frustrated and head to work or back home without voting for Alexi.

Alexi Giannoulias used his office as State Treasurer to launch new green initiatives, including a popular program to encourage the use of fuel efficient hybrid cars and another to incentive green business practices with lower interest loans. He also drafted and helped pass a bill to clean the air by halting excessive diesel truck idling in Chicago and other highly populated communities.

On Nov. 2, state voters will pick a new U.S. senator to replace controversial political appointee Roland Burris, who has a seat previously occupied by President Barack Obama. Seats in the U.S. House of Representatives also will be decided, including two Congressional seats in Southern Illinois.
