As those of you who have been following the front-page coverage know, Congressman Kirk has a problem with the truth.  Yesterday, as Barb Morrill pointed out, after a month of literally running away from the press, he held a press conferences where he apologized (again) for being "careless" and not "precise" in describing his professional career.

The Chicago Press corps. In the kitchen. With a camera and microphone. No, that's not a game of Clue.  It's what happened on Monday afternoon when Congressman Mark Kirk avoided answering questions after a candidate forum by running through a hotel kitchen, hopping into his SUV, and speeding off in silence -- with the Chicago press corps in hot pursuit the whole time.

Tonight, President Obama will be addressing the nation about the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster.  This morning, Alexi announced his New Energy agenda, which he believe offers the common sense steps we must take to break our addiction to oil and create a new clean energy economy.

Alexi’s agenda starts with the most pressing matter facing us today – cleaning up the spill in the Gulf and ensuring that this never happens again.  

Democratic U.S. Senate nominee and Illinois State Treasurer released the following statement today:

"The traditions that mark Memorial Day around the country: a long weekend; ballgames and backyard barbeques; welcoming the warmth and easy pace of summer, are all uniquely American ways by which we spend time with family and friends.  And while we enjoy these summer rituals, we also pause to reflect and honor those who gave, as Lincoln said, ‘the last full measure of devotion’ to our country. 

 Today, as we remember them, we also express our gratitude for what have done for our nation.  We keep in our hearts the families as well of those who have died in service to our country and whose immeasurable loss is no less a sacrifice.  With our nation locked in tough campaigns in two theaters, we also have in our thoughts and prayers the men and women in uniform, and hope that they, too, will soon be able to celebrate Memorial Day at home, with their families and friends."

Late yesterday, we learned that the White House has reportedly reached a deal with Congressional leaders to include a repeal of DADT in the upcoming Defense Authorization bill. It’s a promising sign that equality can’t wait.

Just today, however, we learned that Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) has said he will vote against including a repeal of DADT in the bill:
 

What are "women's issues"? Too often in Washington, politicians believe that "women's issues" are only about choice and child care. And while those are vital issues worth fighting for, true leaders recognize that "women's issues" means so much more.

Republicans have a funny way of reaching out to voters.

Alexi Giannoulias has a TV ad out calling  Republican Congressman Mark Kirk out on his abysmal economic record. In his decade in D.C., Kirk has voted for every Bush budget, every Bush tax cut for the rich, and every Bush war -- all of which doubled our national debt and took us from record surpluses to record deficits.

Today, families and small business owners gathered in the streets of Chicago to rally in support of Wall Street reform. Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias marched in the rally and spoke about the urgent need to overcome obstruction and get reform passed.
