We did it! On Tuesday, the people of our great state voiced great hopes for the future of Illinois and elected me the first Democratic State Treasurer in 12 years.
From Cairo to Rockford, from Quincy to Danville, Illinois voters sent a loud and clear message: now is the time for a new generation of fresh, independent leadership in the State Treasurer’s office.
Tuesday’s election was a victory for people who believe the State Treasurer can do more to invest and protect taxpayer dollars, spur economic growth and usher in a new era of ethics-based government.
I’m truly honored by your support and express my deep heartfelt gratitude to all my friends and supporters. Although it was my name that appeared on the ballot, I could not have come this far or achieved so much without your help. Many of you put up yard signs, staffed phone banks, and campaigned door-to-door to spread our message, making it a truly grass-roots campaign.
I’m privileged with this opportunity that you have given me to serve the public. But while I’m proud of our victory, our campaign for a better Illinois is just beginning. As I said many times on the campaign trail, I’m not running to be something; I’m running to do something.
As your next state treasurer, I look forward to bringing forth innovative ideas to safeguard and invest state money and implement new, exciting initiatives that will have a tangible impact on people’s everyday lives. I will make sure that the state’s money works better for all of Illinois. That’s my promise to you; I won’t let you down.
