Speaking From the Heart

Hartmarx is the Illinois company that stayed in businesses after Alexi and others stood up to Wells Fargo when that big bank wanted to shut Hartmarx down. When Hartmarx employes appeared in Alexi's primary commercial to discuss why they were supporting Alexi, they said that

we need more people like Alexi in politics. A person that cares."

Yesterday, Alexi was interviewed by Carol Marin on WTTW's Chicago Tonight. The interview was part of a series of interviews and editorial board sessions yesterday to address Mark Kirk's smears against Alexi and Broadway Bank, the community business Alexi's late father started nearly four decades ago.  While Mark Kirk plays politics with the struggles facing Broadway Bank -- the same struggles faced by countless of other small and mid-sized businesses that have been affected by this recession -- Alexi knows the real-world effect of Washington's policies.

Although he hasn't worked at the bank for four years, and although when he left the bank it was remarkably well-capitalized, Alexi spoke at length about Broadway Bank yesterday. He spoke from the heart about his work at the bank, about the "horribly inaccuate" smears peddled by Kirk and others, and about his father's legacy.
