Alexi For Illinois Kicks Off March Grassroots Madness

CHICAGO - The Alexi for Illinois campaign today announced it is kicking off a month-long grassroots effort entitled March Grassroots Madness. The effort will help U.S. Senate nominee and avid basketball player Alexi Giannoulias build upon the momentum and energy from his primary victory and a new independent poll showing him leading Republican Congressman Mark Kirk by 7 points. March Grassroots Madness will be a focused drive to engage supporters and highlight his plans to create the new, good jobs of tomorrow right here in Illinois.

"People from across the state of Illinois have been reaching out to the campaign and asking to help. The momentum is building every day because Alexi Giannoulias is the only candidate in this race with a detailed jobs plan to help turn Illinois' economy around," campaign spokesperson Kathleen Strand said. "To win a game, you need hustle and teamwork to put points on the board. Through March Grassroots Madness, we will continue to grow our grassroots support all over the state - and maybe enjoy a little basketball while we're at it."

The first of several March Grassroots Madness events will be a volunteer meet-and-greet this weekend. Other events will be announced throughout March including watch parties during key games of the tournament.

Giannoulias has been playing basketball for most of his life. He played during high school at the Latin School in Chicago, competed in Division I basketball on the Boston University squad, and played professionally for Panionios B.C. in Greece.
