One of Central Illinois' largest newspapers endorsed U.S. Senate Nominee Alexi Giannoulias today and noted that Congressman Kirk’s lies are a “stumbling block” for him.

The Decatur Herald & Review credited Giannoulias with implementing ethical safeguards that ended pay-to-play in the Treasurer’s Office and made government more open and transparent. It also dismissed Kirk’s barrage of negative attacks on Giannoulias.

Meanwhile, the newspaper criticized Kirk for lying about his military record and didn’t buy his claims when he tries to minimize the lies as “misrepresentations.”

“There are other words for it, like lies and untruths,” the newspaper noted. “…Kirk knew the truth and allowed his official biography to state otherwise.”

The Decatur Herald & Review is the latest newspaper to endorse Giannoulias, joining the Springfield State Journal Register, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The Southern Illlinoisan, Rockford Register Star, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Defender.
