What A Community Business Is All About

ABC 7's Charles Thomas reports on what it means to have a community business and how the economic conditions causes by eight years of reckless Bush economic policies are having a negative effect on community banks across the nation.  An excerpt:

The Independent Community Bankers Association told ABC 7 Thursday that virtually all of the group's member banks are under some stress because of falling real estate values.

Speaking From The Heart

Hartmarx is the Illinois company that stayed in businesses after Alexi and others stood up to Wells Fargo when that big bank wanted to shut Hartmarx down. When Hartmarx employes appeared in Alexi's primary commercial to discuss why they were supporting Alexi, they said that "we need more people like Alexi in politics. A person that cares."

Yesterday, Alexi was interviewed by Carol Marin on WTTW's Chicago Tonight. The interview was part of a series of interviews and editorial board sessions yesterday to address Mark Kirk's smears against Alexi and Broadway Bank, the community business Alexi's late father started nearly four decades ago.  While Mark Kirk plays politics with the struggles facing Broadway Bank -- the same struggles faced by countless of other small and mid-sized businesses that have been affected by this recession -- Alexi knows the real-world effect of Washington's policies.

7 Points

Yesterday, an independent poll showed Alexi beating incumbent Republican Congressman Mark Kirk by seven points. Today, our campaign outlined seven reasons why Alexi's support continues to grow throughout Illinois.

Thank You

I am honored and humbled by the outpouring of support from the people of Illinois.  Today, voters went to the polls seeking a way forward for our state and our nation in the midst of the greatest recession we have seen in generations.

Our victory tonight is a victory for those working families who have fought on the front lines of that recession.  They wanted to hear about how we would create jobs and stand up to special interests.  Because of you, we are now one step closer to bringing a strong voice for ordinary Americans to the U.S. Senate.
